Vine Dining held its inaugural dinner in Charlotte last week in the private room at Napa on Providence. The general theme of the dinner was 'An Introduction to Bordeaux via Second Wines', with deviations from the theme for the white wine and the Sauternes. The wines featured were as follows:
Pre-dinner drinks:
Burly Chardonnay 2013
Starter:
Pagodes de Cos 2000
Clos du Marquis 2000
Petit Eglise 2000
Main course:
Tourelles de Longueville 2000
Reserve de la Comtesse 2000
Marquis de Calon 2000
Cheese:
Croix de Beaucaillou 2003
Marquis de Calon 2003
After-dinner: Chateau Guiraud 1988
Of the reds there were a number of candidates for wine 0f the night, with the Pagodes de Cos, Tourelles de Longueville and Reserve de la Comtesse all drining beautifully. The Marquis de Calon were both disappointing, and won't be a repeat purchase - the 2000 vintages were obviously judged superior to the 2003's. Special note of the 1988 Guiraud; a great Sauternes from a stunning vintage.
